IdeaSpring

This was my last project at ID, institute of design in Chicago.

Companies, even innovative ones, still find it difficult to manage and share knowledge internally. This is in contrast to the current state of web and media, which has made big strides in helping regular users share their ideas openly. My team saw the missing opportunity, and initiated a demo project at school to figure out how to improve knowledge sharing in innovation-driven companies.

Started off with secondary research first, and contacted 50+ companies for survey, and in-depth interviews with 8 people from 2 companies. I think I used the largest amount of post-its for this project, we discussed, debated, analysed all our findings and came up with the framework for knowledge sharing. Then brainstormed together to came up with one realistic solution.

The core problem we saw is that employees in innovative companies are actively share knowledge within the project team, but rarely with other teams. That causes duplication of work, losing opportunities for inspirations.

Ideaspring is our first suggestion of the strategy for improving whole information storage system in the company. It allows employees in design consultancies share project progress and personal learning. Users can easily capture photos, share and get updated of in-progress work, interesting findings and personal opinions.

You can have a look at the user scenario of idea spring below.
